AB 1881 and Your Lawn
The Water Conservation Landscaping Act (Assembly Bill 1881 aka AB 1881) may have been officiated in 2006, but it has future repercussions for all California residents. This far-reaching act directs water providers and consumers in water use, and within the next three years, will dictate what kind of irrigation devices can be sold and purchased in California. AB 1881 will require the Energy Commission to “adopt performance standards for landscape irrigation equipment” in 2010 and then bans the sale of irrigation controllers that are not conserving enough water by January 2012. This means only irrigation systems that will be sold in California will be those that meet the Energy Commission’s performance standards for conservation. Others may be banned.
Why does this matter for you? If you intend to purchase irrigation equipment in California in the coming years, this bill will regulate what kind of equipment you can buy. However, tighter regulations on water use are hoped to help California conserve water and reduce runoff as there will be fewer controllers that water the same amount, regardless of the weather. The Cyber-Rain controller does take the weather and amount of rain into account when working with your irrigation systems, thus conserving water on a daily basis.
We applaud positive thinking when it comes to water-use. The Cyber-Rain smart sprinkler controller, on average, saves 38% of water per year, which otherwise may have been wasted and even contributed to run-off. The Cyber-Rain sprinkler controller is an easy-to-use system which can also help consumers enjoy the benefit of saving water, even before it is mandated by law. And with the easy-to-use Cyber-Rain system, saving water just got that much easier!
